I suppose if I had to I COULD survive without these websites, but I certainly am glad they are available. They are not necessarily listed in priority order:
1. Facebook — I’ve been able to get reconnected with high school acquaintances, others have found me on Facebook, and stayed much more closely in touch with some friends. I just can’t get into all the games that are available, and couldn’t care less about sending virtual gifts. http://www.facebook.com
2. Google — in a number of it’s options — search engine, maps, documents, email, and learning more and more. http://www.google.com
3. Twitter — a fascinating glimpse into the world around me and what people are thinking about. http://www.twitter.com
4. Biblegateway — a place to look up Bible passages by chapter and verse, or by key word, in a variety of translations. I personally like the Today’s New International Version and The Message. http://www.biblegateway.com
5. Weatherbug — yeah, I know it’s supposedly one of the worst sites concerning cookies and tracking its users, but I still depend on it for weather alerts. http://www.weatherbug.com
6. Wikipedia — the online, user developed information site. Sure you have to be careful and not assume everything you read is 100% accurate, but I think they do a pretty good job of keeping the information current and not too far off course. http://www.wikipedia.com
7. Truth or Fiction — usually the site I go to when I have a question about an email that’s been forwarded to me which looks like it could be more of an e-rumor. There’s other good sites to check this out as well, but this is where I started and have stayed. http://www.truthorfiction.com
8. iTunes — what more needs to be said. http://www.iTunes.com
9. News — Okay, I’m cheating here. I can’t decide on just one news source online. But it is an important way I get news now.
10. (seasonally) Coming up to Christmas I expect I’ll be finding Christmas music stations at Live365 — internet radio broadcasting thousands of options of all kinds of music and spoken word — http://www.live365.com
Interestingly, MySpace has fallen off for me….haven’t been on it for months.
We’ll see how important WordPress becomes for me.
